PowerNet Tour of Southland 2010

Tour Q and A for Schools

Who is the major sponsor of the Tour of Southland?

PowerNet Limited

What do PowerNet do?

Look after the power lines and power equipment in Southland and parts of Otago so that we can all have electricity!

If you saw power lines that had fallen across the road, what would you do?

Stay well away from the lines and tell an adult who will phone PowerNet Faults or 111

Do you know why you shouldn't fly kites near power lines?

If the kite touched or flew too close to the power line you would be electrocuted which means that you could be very badly burnt or killed.

Electricity can "jump" which means that you can receive a serious shock even if you are not touching a live power line.  Its best to be careful!

Do you know why you shouldn't climb trees that have grown near power lines?

If the tree touched a power line and you are touching the tree you would be electrocuted which means that you could be very badly burnt or killed.

Trees sometimes look like they are far enough away from power lines but when the wind blows the branches can touch lines.
